Manorama School of Communication
Inviting applications for one-year Postgraduate Diploma in Journalism
Specialisation: Print or Broadcast
MASCOM, launched by the 131-year-old Malayala Manorama group in 2002, is an acknowledged centre of excellence for journalism in India. The course at MASCOM introduces students to the world of cutting-edge journalism, where they gain proficiency in print or broadcast journalism through meticulously designed training modules.
The course sensitises students to the evolving developments in electronic and print media. A comprehensive digital journalism module is part of the course. Students gather hands-on experience through news-gathering field trips and interviewing leading personalities. The print students bring out a weekly lab newspaper and acquire advanced skills in reporting, editing and computer software; while broadcast students put together lab news bulletins twice a week and acquire reporting, camera and production skills.
Along with the exposure to the state-of-the-art technology and other communication systems employed at Malayala Manorama, MASCOM has expert faculty with national and international work experience. Student workstations have dedicated computers with broadband connectivity. Broadcast students work with professional cameras and production equipment.
The medium of instruction at MASCOM is English, but students are free to choose between English and Malayalam streams for specialisation.
MASCOM will help provide students with furnished quarters and a canteen that offers meals at subsidised rates.
Candidates with a bachelor degree in any discipline and those awaiting degree results may apply. Selection is based on the entrance examination to be held in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru and various centres in Kerala, followed by an interview at MASCOM in the last week of June.m
